What's Ahead: Liturgy of the Hours and More

As parish offices begin the transition into summer hours, with pastors and parish musicians awaiting some well-deserved summer repose, the Source & Summit team is working as hard as ever on some exciting new projects.

I’m glad to offer a first look at a few of them:

Liturgy of the Hours Support

One of our most popular feature requests is Liturgy of the Hours support on the Source & Summit Digital Platform. We have long awaited the opportunity to respond to this need, and I’m thrilled to announce that our project proposal has been approved by the USCCB Secretariat for Divine Worship and that we are preparing for an initial release of a Liturgy of the Hours digital add-on as early as January of 2027, ahead of the first-use date of Ash Wednesday of next year.

The Liturgy of the Hours will be available as an add-on product to any Source & Summit digital plan — including our missal support plans — and will enable Ordo creation for Lauds (Morning Prayer), Vespers (Evening Prayer), and Compline (Night Prayer), with the ability to create custom, one-time-use booklets for particular celebrations of the Office. It will also feature a new musical collection — the Source & Summit Psalter — which will provide a variety of musical settings for every text.

In its initial release, the Source & Summit Psalter collection will offer tone-based musical settings of the antiphons, psalmody, and responsories of the Divine Office. In time, through-composed settings will also be incorporated into the collection. Just as it is with Ordos created for the Mass, a number of different tones can be applied to any text. Templates can also be employed for maximal customizability and efficiency in the creation of beautiful booklets for sung celebration of the Office.

While we are eager to support the entirety of the Liturgy of the Hours on the Source & Summit Digital Platform, our initial release will be limited to Lauds and Vespers for Sundays, Solemnities, Feasts of the Lord, and All Souls, in addition to the full office of Compline. The USCCB Secretariat for Divine Worship has assured us that further permissions will be granted as their time and resources permit after the work of the initial Liturgy of the Hours release is concluded.

Source & Summit Missal Typography Redesign

I am also excited to announce that the Source & Summit Missal is undergoing a complete typographic redesign which will appear first in the 2028 volume of the Missal. We are now collaborating with 2K/Denmark, a world-class Bible typesetter and the designer of the Ascension Press edition of the Liturgy of the Hours, on the missal redesign.

The new typography is aimed primarily at improving readability, though without sacrificing the beauty and ethos that Source & Summit subscribers have come to expect. Months of deliberation and scrutiny have gone into the design process, which I am confident will result in an improvement in both accessibility and aesthetics.

The cover art design will continue along its established path, with new art each year from Ruth Stricklin of New Jerusalem Studios, who also was the artist selected for the Ascension edition of the Office.

See you at NPM

Finally, I’m excited to share that Source & Summit will be a premium sponsor at the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) Convention at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in July. We will offer one of the three Showcase plenary events and feature both the musical and the practical value offered by the Source & Summit Digital Platform. Most of the members of our team will be there. If you plan to attend, please stop by our booth to say hello.

There’s much more that I could share about what’s coming in the months ahead. But for now, the Source & Summit team and I are grateful for the chance to partner with your parish, and we look forward to all of the good things that lie ahead.
